Join us for a gallery tour highlighting the work of eight Prospect.1 artists on view in and around the Museum, with Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Miranda Lash.
The work to be highlighted includes: the charcoal and acrylic drawings depicting scenes of life in the Seventh Ward by New Orleans-based artist Willie Birch; an installation of Mardi Gras Indian suits by Big Chief Victor Harris and The Fi Yi Yi; the interactive Pulse Tank installation that projects waves of light onto the floor and ceiling based on the viewer’s own pulse by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer; the interactive installation that encourages communication through a universal language of symbols by Xu Bing; the trompe l’oeil sculptures of everyday objects made from stretched and painted canvases by Kaz Oshiro; the latest video melodrama starring artist Kalup Linzy; and Desire, a monumental sculpture by Monica Bonvicini on the Museum’s north roof.
To read a short review of the Prospect.1 installations at the Museum by art critic D. Eric Bookhardt of Gambit Weekly, click here.
A cash bar will be open in the Great Hall from 5-8 p.m. so come early for a drink and peruse all of the current exhibitions.

Thursday December 18, 2008
Rescheduled due to last Thursday’s surprise snowstorm, PhotoNOMA has been rescheduled for this Thursday, Dec. 18. Get to know the work of some of the city’s most talented artists, established and emerging, as 100 photographers exhibit portfolios on the Museum’s first floor. Presented by the New Orleans Photo Alliance and the New Orleans Museum of Art, this annual extravaganza lasts until 9:00 p.m.

Got a meme award yesterday that I was supposed to pass along to eight other bloggers. Instead, I decided to point my readers to eight NOLA bloggers that I’ve been silently reading for awhile now.
Thanks for your interesting posts and for keeping NOLA front and center, in a personal way, for those of us who only see the city through the occasional news story. My post here: http://leftcoastcowboys.com/2008/12/17/spreading-the-linky-love-to-new-orleans/
